In Kindergarten and 1st Grade, we had so much fun learning about all different types of lines. We studied some henna tattoo examples for inspiration, and took turns trying to create lines that show emotion. We then used all we had learned to create these beautiful handprint menorah and candle designs to decorate for Channukah.
In Kindergarten, artists traced their handprints(with help), and then were challenged to create a different line design for each finger of their tracing. Once the designs were finished, artists traced over their lines with both thick and think sharpies. The final designs were cut out and mounted on silver poster board. We made "flames" by using watered down paint in squirt bottles to create a big drip painting. Once it was dry, flames were cut to finish these amazing holiday pieces.
In 1st Grade, artists were encouraged use lines to create designs that expressed what made each artist a special "light" in our community. Some used the letters of their names to create designs, while others used lines to create favorite shapes and symbols. We also had fun using watered down paint to cover these precut shapes into fiery flames. The silver poster board really helped to add to the light effect when these pieces were hung at our annual Gala and in our school gallery.
