Up Close with Georgia O'Keefe
I personally fell in love with Georgia O'Keefe's work when I was in 4th Grade. I still remember the report I wrote about her and her work. After a recent trip to O'Keefe's Ghost Ranch in New Mexico, I was excited to introduce her to our artists.
Our local Whole Foods generously donated pots and pots of flowers for this project. We spent time looking at flowers, and learning to really see the basic shapes that make up each flower. We also spent a lot of time looking at O'Keefe's work and talking about why she painted such huge flowers. The final pieces were created with oil pastels, and were used to make a calendar as a gift for the classroom teacher. The care that was put into these beautiful flower studies shines through.
