As a faculty we were inspired by Mussar's work, and committed to infusing character trait lessons into our curriculum wherever possible this year. In the Studio, our pop art unit inspired by Roy Lichtenstein kicked off our first character trait project. Our 5th Grade artists chose a trait to celebrate, and worked hard to use lines, shapes and colors that would help strengthen their final pieces.
Our 4th Graders were charged with creating Famous Snow People. Artists turned simple pinch pot built snowmen into the people they most admire. After identifying the admirable trait of each famous snow person, the class created carefully designed gallery cards to display alongside each sculpture.
SHA 1st Grade artists also studied the work of Roy Lichtenstein and the pop art movement before diving into this fun project. Artists create Super Trait Portraits identifying their best trait.
Finally, our 3rd Graders also created Super Trait Portraits, but also had fun turning their "trait" into a city skyline using perspective lines.
This exhibit was so personal and powerful. It was wonderful to walk down the hallway and see what students thought about their best strengths.
